A field guide to effective accelerationism

01 / The movementIdeas become infrastructure.

Less doom.
More doing.

Effective accelerationism is a call to lean into technological progress.

The idea: expand what people can do through more energy, better tools, and scientific discovery. The culture: builders, researchers, writers, artists, and a very online sense of humor. This decentralized community brings those worlds together. Anyone can take part: build something, share what you know, pool resources, or make a meme that gets someone curious.

Energy

More capacity to power the things that matter. Explore the conversation around energy, industry, and civilization at scale.

Power the possible
01.2

Intelligence

Better tools for discovery and creation. Follow the builders expanding what people and machines can do together.

Expand what we can do
01.3

Abundance

A future with more room to flourish. Connect the big ideas to the practical work of making things more available.

A movement.
A thousand
ways in.

Ideas became a culture. The community is turning that energy into things you can use, read, build, and support.

e/acc is bigger than any one project. Start with the ideas, follow the tools people are building, and meet the voices and communities carrying the conversation forward.

Try something: send a message in glyphs
  1. A movement without a membership card.

An early e/acc essay describes a leaderless movement, optimistic about technology and civilization. The invitation is to build openly and let ideas spread.

  2. Ideas become tools.

Extropic introduces its XTR-0 experimental computing platform and open-source THRML library. Developers can explore thermodynamic machine learning through simulation.

  3. More ways to build.

Extropic releases Torx, an open-source framework for stochastic programming, alongside a preview of Thermalizers and its Z1 hardware plans. Code and examples give curious builders a place to start.

  4. Kardashev Research introduces an advisor.

The project announces neuroscientist Karl Friston as a founding advisor, with a focus on intelligence, thermodynamics, and self-organizing systems.

  5. Still building. Still accelerating.

Beff says the institute remains on his agenda while he works on Extropic milestones. Meanwhile, the community shares a glyph manifesto, makes art, and keeps creating.

03 / The long gameFrom here to the stars.

Think in
civilizations.

The Kardashev scale asks a very e/acc question: how much energy could a civilization put to work?

Planet. Star. Galaxy. Three horizons for the imagination. The work begins here.

Type I / Planetary

A planetary energy horizon.

Imagine energy use at the scale of a planet. On Earth, the near-term conversation is about generation, grids, storage and access.

One more way to pool resources. Yes, even crypto.

The token is an optional community funding experiment; taking part in e/acc is open to everyone. The community calls it a financial “DDoS”: support arriving from people acting on their own initiative. Beff has publicly committed donation proceeds to an e/acc nonprofit and described the financial derivatives as outside his control and ownership. Supporting the work does not require him to promote a token.

What these records show

UsePaid reports creator-fee records attributed to Beff. Those records and Beff’s stated nonprofit plans are different kinds of evidence: they do not independently establish funds received or spent by Kardashev Research. This page links the primary sources so you can follow both.

In his 11 October update, Beff said he was focused on Extropic milestones before setting up the research institute. We link to UsePaid for changing totals rather than presenting a static number as live.

How does this work?

Accelerando-8192 assigns a distinct glyph to each of 8,192 text tokens. Tokens can be words, word fragments, punctuation or bytes. This is a reversible encoding, not a trained AI model. The project by gillverd is inspired by the lettering in the Accelerando music video by Grimes & Vadakin.

Message links include the original text in the URL. Glyphs are an encoding, not encryption.
